For treating the symptoms of menopause in women, many doctors prescribe hormone replacement therapy (HRT). This usually results in a prescription of premarin for estrogen replacement.

	Over 9 million American women take premarin. Some love it. Others experience dramatic side effects such as headaches, depression and other symptoms.
	Women who like the convenience of oral HRT, but object to Premarin and/or have not found Estrace to their liking, should consider getting the combined estrogens + progesterone OIL CAPSULES from our compounding pharmacy. Research indicates very good absorption, excellent (dose-dependent) effect on cholesterol, excellent uterine protection, and patient satisfaction.
	When women go through menopause, their ovaries essentially stop making estrogen and their risk of heart disease rises dramatically. Typically, heart disease develops about 10 years later in women than in men. The reason for this may be tied to women's production of the hormone estrogen. Eventually, it nearly equals that of men. Heart disease is the leading cause of death and illness for American women. Each year, about 250,000 American women die of coronary heart disease, the main form of heart disease. And nearly 90,000 die each year of stroke.

	Why is natural hormone replacement important? Because it most closely approximates the effects of human hormones in the menopausal years. At Leesburg Pharmacy, we use plant derived hormones which are all natural, not synthetic drugs created in a laboratory. Unlike synthetic drugs which your body identifies as foreign, natural hormones have few, if any, side effects. This results in greater benefits for the symptoms being treated and minimizes health risks associated with synthetic forms of hormone replacement.
	The hormones the body naturally produces, estrone, estradiol, estriol, progesterone, and testosterone, are all natural hormones. It may seem paradoxical at first that the "natural" estrone, estradiol, and estriol used for natural hormone replacement (NHR) do not come from humans, as they did hundreds and even thousands of years ago.
	Today, these hormones for NHR get their start from the wild yam (Diascorea composita) which is rich in "precursor" molecules easily converted by biochemists into other molecules that are identical in every way to "natural" estrogens, progesterone, testosterone, and other hormones.
	When describing replacement hormones, the word "natural" is used to refer to the structure of the hormone molecule, not its source. When analyzed biochemically, the molecules of estrogens, progesterone, and other hormones produced from wild yam precursor molecules are found to be absolutely indistinguishable from those the human body produces itself. Thus the crucial variable defining "natural" is not the origin of the hormone, but its chemical structure.

About Saliva Testing

At Leesburg Pharmacy we use saliva testing kits processed by ZRT Laboratories to establish steroid levels.
